WHAT'S NEW IN THE UPDATED SITE (MARCH 2009)?

This new website release incorporates the following improvements:

  • A larger archive: there are now over 6000 talks available for download, following a programme of conversion of archived recordings from analogue to digital formats
  • Easier to use download facility: free downloads no longer have to be 'purchased' via the shopping basket, so there are fewer steps and the beast behaves in a more even-tempered way generally.
  • Handouts/Notes/Outlines can now be downloaded with talks (where available)
  • Improved Search The new Quicksearch option makes it easier to find what you're looking for
  • A wide range of Recommended Talks has been flagged to help you choose
  • Podcast Channels are available for Sunday Evening, Sunday Morning and Midweek sermons
  • More flexible delivery options for CD purchases - it's much easier to send CDs to alternative addresses and as gifts to friends or relatives. You can set up a number of different delivery addresses and send a greeting with your CD gift
  • Enhanced card security: 3D card security has been added to the site, so you may be required to enter an additional password when making a purchase if your card issuer requires it.
  • Donate facility. A number of people have very kindly expressed a desire to support this media ministry financially, and the donate facility provides a convenient way to do so by card. UK Taxpayers can enhance the value of their gift and obtain higher rate tax relief by selecting the 'Gift Aid' option when making a donation.

CAN I MAKE COPIES OF RECORDINGS?

All recordings, whether accessed via file download or CD order (unless explicitly indicated to the contrary) are the copyright of St Helen's Church, Bishopsgate and may not be copied, transmitted or otherwise disseminated, except as indicated in the following paragraph, without our written permission.

The following exceptions apply: Users may transfer recordings to CD or to a solid state recording device (such as an iPOD or other mp3 player) without our permission for their own personal use. Recordings may be played in a small group such as a home group.

I'M HAVING TROUBLE DOWNLOADING A TALK - PLEASE HELP!

The download procedure is straightforward but occasionally, depending on the settings of your browser and the combination of browser version and media player you are using, you may experience problems. Common problems and workarounds appear below:

MY PET CROCODILE GNAWED THROUGH MY BROADBAND CABLE BEFORE MY DOWNLOAD COMPLETED AND I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER WHAT THE TALK WAS. HOW DO I FIND AND DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN ONCE THE CROC HAS BEEN MUZZLED AND THE CABLE REPLACED?

All your downloads (except for talks on the 'recent talks' which can be downloaded without your logging in) are listed in 'My Downloads' (option is on the right side of the home page after you've logged in) and you can download them again and again until the novelty wears off.

I WANT TO DOWNLOAD A TALK TO MY COMPUTER FOR FUTURE USE BUT IT ONLY PLAYS ONLINE

Normally when you (left-)click the 'Download Now' button (or the talk title in 'My Downloads') you will be given the choice of opening the file straight away (play online) or of saving to your hard drive. However, with certain browser settings the talk may begin to play online straight away without your being given the choice. If this happens, right-click on Download Now (or the talk title in 'My Downloads') and select 'save target as' or 'save link as' or similar. Note: if you are using an Apple Mac there is no right-click facility. Instead, keep the control key (marked Ctrl or similar) pressed and then Left-click. You can then select 'save target as' or 'save link as' or similar.

WHEN I TRY TO DOWNLOAD A TALK, IT PLAYS FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN STOPS

This is rare, but it does happen with certain browser / media player combinations. You need to save the talk to your hard drive first and play it only once you've got it safely caged inside your computer. Just right-click on Download Now (or the talk title in 'My Downloads') and select 'save target as' or 'save link as' or similar. Note: if you are using an Apple Mac there is no right-click facility. Instead, keep the control key (marked Ctrl or similar) pressed and then Left-click. You can then select 'save target as' or 'save link as' or similar.

I WANT TO ORDER SOME CDs. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Goods are normally despatched within a few working days of your placing an order. Working days exclude weekends, public holidays applicable in England and any periods of closure as may be advertised on the home page of our website. For full details please read our Terms and Conditions.

Goods are usually despatched by first class post within the UK and by airmail to all overseas destinations. Within the UK you should therefore receive your items within two working days of despatch (despatch is confirmed by email); Outside the UK you should receive your items within 5-10 working days.

In the case of subscriptions (CD of the Month), CDs are normally despatched by second class post or airmail towards the end of the calendar month to which the CD relates.

HOW DO I SEND CDs AS PRESENTS?

You can easily specify an alternative recipient when you place an order, and you can also include a greeting at no extra cost. You can build up a collection of alternative addresses to save you time if you send another gift to the same person. The same applies to CD OF THE MONTH subscriptions.
